Voluntary and Community Sector

Large Group of Children

You may be a parenting group, sports club, toddler group, youth club etc and no matter how large or small, we all need to ensure that children are safe.

Are you aware of what the ‘Minimum Safeguarding Standards” are?

  • Do you work with children?
  • Are you up to date with your safeguarding?
  • Have you got the right safeguarding and child protection arrangements in place?

Previous Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership (now the BCP Safeguarding Children Partnership and the Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership) Voluntary Sector Safeguarding Toolkit

With the support of voluntary sector organisations across Dorset we have created a Safeguarding Toolkit designed to help you:

  • understand how well you are fulfilling your safeguarding role
  • identify any areas for improvement
  • review your policies
  • identify any training needs
  • understand the role of the Designated Safeguarding Person
  • communicate with children and families
  • employ the right people
  • manage a Concern
  • provide you with advice and support to help keep children safe

Toolkit Content:

  1. Self Assessment Tool
  2. Safeguarding Policy Guidance
  3. Safeguarding Policy Template
  4. Safeguarding Recruitment Application Form Template
  5. Safer Recruitment Reference Request Template
  6. Managing Allegations Guidance
  7. Managing Allegations Leaflet (Dorset Only)
  8. Questions parents should ask organisations to safeguarding children

Other Resources

The NSPCC has developed guidance and a wall chart entitled ‘Are They Safe?’ specifically for voluntary and community groups. These set out expectations and responsibilities for settings and help to identify areas where improvement may be required.

The Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership and the BCP Safeguarding Children Partnership is committed to culturally competent and trauma-informed practice in all aspects of its work.
