Q1. I want to book a place on a Pan-Dorset SCP Safeguarding children course, but I do not have a Nexus account, what should I do?
All delegates need their own individual Nexus account to book any Pan-Dorset SCP training. Before signing up to an account, check what team you should be under Nexus. Often your organization will already have a site set up and within it, there may be multiple teams. Requests for a site registration form need to be emailed to:
pan-dorsetscptraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk
The more accurate information we have, the quicker we will be able to set your account up.
- Please visit dorsetnexus.org.uk to register
- Select ‘Signup’, at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- This will open an application form, please fill in all the boxes and give as much information as possible about your location and who you work for.
- Once you have done this, you will receive an email in due course with your log in details. This can take several days in busy periods.
- Once you have received your login details, please login into http://www.dorsetnexus.org.uk/ and click on ‘login’ (in red) at the top right-hand corner of the screen
Q2. I have forgotten my Nexus login, what should I do?
- Select the Login (in red) at the top right-hand side of the screen.
- Enter your username (this will always be your email address)
- Click the ‘forgotten password’
- Your login details will be resent to you
- If you have an error message appear saying invalid username, it means you do not have an account. You will need to register, do this by clicking ‘Signup’ on the homepage – or follow the steps for Q1 (above).
Q3. My place has not been confirmed or is waiting for authorisation. What should I do?
Dorset Council and Dorset Healthcare staff have a dedicated team that will check out/authorise bookings automatically. If you work in these areas, you do not need to do anything, the course will be checked out in time, or they will contact you if there is a problem with the authorisation.
Most other areas/sites should have at least one person who has the admin rights to check out/authorise bookings. This is normally a manager, a CPD Leader, or someone who has financial responsibilities within the organisation – or it might be someone who makes the course bookings for you e.g., a school administrator. If you are unsure who this is, for you, please email the team at pan-dorsetscptraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk and we can advise on who you need to speak to.
Q4. There are spaces on a course, but I am unable to book a place. Why is this happening?
This can happen for a number of reasons:
To ensure that our training is multi-agency, our courses have a limit to the number of places any one site/organisation can book. For most of our courses the level is set at three places per site, but on free or very popular courses we sometimes only allow one place per site.
If a course is full, the admin team will close the course to stop people trying to book onto it. However, if a delegate cancels a place on a full course, the course may show up again on Nexus, but it will not allow a booking to be made. This allows the training team to offer any cancelled places to the waiting list – rather than it being available to all users. If there is no one on the waiting list, we will re-release the course to allow the space to be taken up.
Q5. I am on the waiting list, what happens now?
Waiting lists are set up when courses are either full or if the threshold for the number of places for a site is reached. The waiting list allows people to be on standby in case a place becomes available. If a place becomes available, the training team will email the people on the waiting list on a first come, first served basis, and offer the place out.
If you are on the waiting list, you do not automatically have a place on the course. You will be contacted if a space becomes available. Delegates that turn up for the course that do not have a confirmed place will be turned away from training.
Q6. I have attended a course, but have not got my certificate?
It can take up to two weeks from the course date for the course register to be marked and uploaded to Nexus.
Once the register has been marked, Nexus will email you asking for course feedback (check your spam/junk filter as the email can often end up here). Please take the time to fill this in, it should only take a couple of minutes, and it is helpful for us to know what we are getting right and where we need to improve!
Once feedback is completed, you will be taken to a page where you can download the certificate.
If you miss this stage, or do not receive the feedback email, please follow the steps below:
- To print a certificate, you will need to log in to dorsetnexus.org.uk
- Go to the ‘training’ tab on the navy ribbon at the top
- On the right-hand side click ‘View All Organisation bookings’
- Use the filter to find the course
- Click the link button on the far left-hand side which will take you to the booking
- On the same line as the delegate’s name is an arrow to click, which expands the booking. From here there is a link to the evaluation form and a link your certificate. If you have completed the evaluation, your certificate will have a green tick and you should be able to click on it and download it.
- If you have not completed feedback, you will see the envelope to click for the Evaluation form. Click on the envelope, complete the evaluation form and the certificate will unlock.
- Once the evaluation form is submitted you will see the option to download the certificate.
Q7. I cannot attend the course but would like a colleague to take my place, what should I do?
Please contact the Training Team at pan-dorsetscptraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk with the date of the course, the course title, your name and the name of the colleague who will be taking your place. We will then transfer the booking over for you or contact you if we need any further details.
Q8. I would like to cancel my place, what should I do?
You can cancel your booking on Nexus, or you can contact the training team at pan-dorsetscptraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk Please let us know the date of the course, the name of the course and your full name and we will arrange for the course to be cancelled. Please see Q9 for cancellation charges.
Q9. I would like to cancel my place; will I still be charged?
Once you book a place on a course you have a ‘48hr’ cooling off period where you won’t be charged for cancelling your booking.
After that time, all courses cancelled within 28 days of the course date will be charged in full and free courses will be charged a £25 admin fee.
You can ask for your place to be transferred to a colleague, please refer to Q7 for details.
Please see our cancellation policy for more details.
Q10. I am not sure who authorises/checks out my booking?
Please see answer to Q3.
Q11. How do I access pre-course material?
Once a course place is authorized (item is checked out of the basket), a link to access pre-course material will be emailed to you. Please note that if your account is registered as ‘non-user’, any emails related to your bookings will be sent directly to the person who manages and/or authorizes your bookings. You may need to ask them for booking details and course materials.
Q12. I am authorised to confirm/check out my team’s training, how do I do this?
If you have full site access or CPD/training access, you can confirm/checkout bookings for your team. When you log into Nexus, you will see a shopping trolley in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
Click on the trolley and it will take you to a screen with all the current courses that are waiting for authorisation. Here you can either cancel bookings, select individual courses to authorise or select everything in your basket to authorise them all at the same time.
If you think you should have this access and cannot see a shopping trolley – please contact the Training Team.
Q13. I would like to be notified if I have a course waiting to be authorised. How do I do this?
Please ensure that your alert button on Nexus is selected so you can receive communications relevant to your booking. To check your settings, please follow the instructions below:
- Log in to your Nexus account
- Go to User Profile
- Click on the ‘Site alert options’ link and you should be able to enable your alerts setting.
Q14. Are there any free places?
If you are a small or micro registered charity (including not for profit) with less than £100k turnover per annum and you are working with children, young people or families in Dorset, you may be eligible for a free place on the PDSCP Initial in Safeguarding Children Level 3 and PDSCP Update in Safeguarding Children Level 3 courses. Places are limited and must be agreed with the training team.
For more details, please visit our Nexus page and click on the link under ‘Free charity places’.
Q15: How do I get help with setting up my Nexus site or Nexus account?
You can email the Pan-Dorset Training Team on pan-dorsetscptraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk
Q16: When will I receive joining instructions and pre-course materials?
Joining instructions and pre-course materials will be sent two weeks before the course. Once these have been sent to you via email, they will also be available for download from your Nexus Account.
Q17: How can I view all the training available?
Go to Dorset Nexus www.dorsetnexus.org.uk and click on Training and Events to find out about the courses available. Enter ‘PDSCP’ in the search box and you should see all the courses we offer.
Q18: How do I book training?
To book training, every organisation must be set up as a site on Nexus, and every delegate must have a Nexus account. Once you have your log in details, you will be able to select and book on the training required on www.dorsetnexus.org.uk . Please note that if the session is fully booked, you can add your name to the waiting list.
